The Roles
All Full-time Officers are Trustees of the Students' Union, and represent, promote and defend the rights of members and act in the best interest of the Union at all times. Officers lead campaigns, implement and help to create Union policy, attend events, and collaborate with Union staff and Officers to enhance the Students' Union and the services it offers. All the roles below are paid £21,000 per annum with 25 days holiday leave.
Duties of the role of the President
- Be the voice of students at the University of East London. To be the key representative to the University and external organisations.
- Be a Trustee of University of East London Students’ Union and fulfil the relevant duties.
- Work with the Board of Trustees and report to the University’s Board of Governors
- Act as the Chair and co-ordinate the work of the Executive Committee including the implementation of Union Policy.
- To organise, in conjunction with the rest of the Executive Committee, campaigns which relate to the interests of all students.
- Seek feedback from members.
- Provide reports and updates to Student Council and support Student Representatives and Part-time Officers.
- Be responsible for the conduct of the Union’s relations with NUS and other key organisations that impact on the student experience at the University of East London.
- Be the Union’s lead delegate to NUS National Conference.
- Report on the performance of the Union’s services to appropriate stakeholders.
- Be the principal spokesperson for the Union to the media.
- Ensure the Union adheres to the Articles of Association, Bye-Laws and Policy.
- Ensure the Union is meeting its Sustainability obligations.
- Support and work with the University on matters of the University Estate
- To be a full and active member of the University’s committee structure and attend all meetings
- To oversee and coordinate the work of the Officer Trustees
- To assist and contribute to the strategic planning of the Union
- Do all other duties as stated in the Articles of Association, Bye-Laws, and Union policies or delegated duties from the Board of Trustees or Student Council.
Duties of the role of Vice Presidents
- Be the voice for students at the University of East London Colleges.
- To be the Education Officer and the key representative to the University and external organisations for college related matters.
- Be a Trustee of University of East London Students’ Union and fulfil the relevant duties.
- Implement policy as part of the Executive Committee.
- Organise, in conjunction with the rest of the Executive Committee, campaigns which relate to the interests of students within a specific college, on academic matters.
- Chair the College Forum meetings within a specified college
- Seek feedback from members.
- Be the Officer lead on individual college related issues.
- Support and work with Union staff members to deliver an effective student representation system.
- To be a full and active member of the University’s committee structure and attend all meeting and panels as required
- Communicate and attend events with external and internal bodies on academic matters, including NUS
- Lobby the College to provide the optimal academic experience for students.
- To support and work with Union staff to ensure high levels of engagement with our members
- Do all other duties as stated in the Articles of Association, Bye-Laws, and Union policies or delegated duties from the Board of Trustees or Student Council.
