We are excited to invite you to our Diwali celebration in collaboration with Indian Society, Tamil Society, Telugu Society, Kerala Society and Dance Society.
What is Diwali?
Diwali is a beloved and widely celebrated festival in India, symbolising the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. It holds immense cultural, religious, and social importance, bringing people from all walks of life together in a spirit of joy and unity.
Event details
The event will feature henna art, games, dance performances, a fashion show, sparklers and sweets.
Tickets (free) are required for this event. If you do not have a ticket, you will not be allowed to take part. Tickets will be on sale until 15:00 on Thursday 16 November or until they sell out - whichever comes first.
Only UEL students are permitted. You cannot take friends and family to this event.
Running order
16:00 - 16:30: Registration at the desk outside the Students’ Union reception in North Building.
16:00 - 19:00: Henna art in the Pump House.
16:30 - 17:30: Games including musical chairs and lemon and spoon race, at the far end of East Building.
16:30 - 16:40: Dance Society Ganpati Dance under the Docklands tent.
16:45 - 18:05: a variety of dance performances - see who's performing where below.
18:15 - 18:45: Fashion show.
18:50 - 19:10: Get your sparkler and Indian sweet. Head to the coloured table that corresponds to the token you were given at registration.
- Red tokens: Collect from West Building/Costa collection point.
- Blue tokens: Collect from outside Students' Union reception collection point.
- Gold/yellow tokens: Collect from The Edge/East Building collection point.
19:15 – 19:30: Sparklers!
