LGBTQ+ History Month at East London Students’ Union

This February, we are proud to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month at East London Students’ Union, a time to honour the lives, achievements, and rich culture of our LGBTQ+ community.

This celebration provides an opportunity to explore the past, recognise the present, and look toward a vibrant future.

At East London Students’ Union, we aim to ensure every student feels seen, appreciated, and heard. By hosting this month-long celebration, we seek to educate, engage, and inspire our student community, promoting inclusivity and understanding.

This initiative also highlights our LGBTQ+ community group. These groups, provide  students who identify as LGBTQ+ with the opportunity to come together to discuss the issues that affect them, socialise with their peers and be part of our drive to create a positive and inclusive environment while at University.

Our community groups plan events, provide support to their members, and help to inform our campaigns. Get involved if you want to make sure your voice is heard – membership to our community groups is completely free.  Join the group here.

LGBTQ+ events at East London Students' Union

As part of our commitment to inclusivity and celebrating diversity, the East London Students’ Union is proud to host a series of exciting and meaningful events for LGBTQ+ History Month, led by our Inclusion Officer Dipika GokulNath. These events are designed to raise awareness, create safe spaces, and amplify the voices of our LGBTQ+ community and allies at UEL.

LGBTQ+ Quiz Night

Kick off LGBTQ+ History Month with an engaging and educational LGBTQ+ Quiz Night! This event is designed to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ history, rights, culture, and icons while keeping things fun and interactive. A welcoming and inclusive environment where you can test your knowledge, learn something new, and make new friends.

Whether you're an expert or just curious to learn, come along for a night of fun and celebration!

Humans of UEL – LGBTQ+ History Month edition

Inspired by "Humans of New York", this storytelling project aims to celebrate the diverse experiences, identities, and journeys of LGBTQ+ students and their allies at UEL.

How to participate:
We are inviting students to submit written pieces, artwork, poetry, personal reflections, or short stories that speak to their identity and experiences.

Your submission could be showcased on various Students' Union platforms, including our website, social media, and LED screens at Docklands and Stratford.

Whether it's a poem about self-discovery, an artwork that speaks to your journey, or a short story capturing a personal moment, we want to share your voice, your truth, and your life.

This initiative is all about fostering understanding, representation, and visibility—because every story matters.
