Statement Against Tablets
Dear all,
This is a fantastic opportunity for us students to be heard. It’s not about being narrow-minded or old fashioned but about being realistic. The practicality of having a hard copy of a book cannot be replaced. You can fold the page, make notes in it, and add sticky notes to it with no fear it will not load, not open or that your battery might run out. A book and its pages load immediately and their battery is eternal.
Receiving a new book, is something that you probably don’t already have, and something that does not have an expiry date. It stays with you forever.
It’s worth noting that to engage with technology you will need to pay a price and if you haven’t noticed when we moved from books to e-books the students paid the price from the Progress Bursary scheme. Obviously those e-books need a gadget to be seen and read on.
From a £1100 total over the 3 years new students now receive £900 which means the shift to e-books has come with a price to be paid by students (indirectly), when they weren’t even consulted in the first place… Be realistic and vote books!
